Intransitive verbs: SV

We talk about a transitive verb when there is no other complement accompanying the verb (and with complement I mean an object complement) if we have this particular structure then we are talking about an intransitive verb. Transitive verbs do not require an object complement. Here are some examples of intransitive verbs: go, fall, die, and sleep. This lead us to another sentence structure: S (subject) + V (verb). To convey a wider meaning we can add more elements like adverbials which are optional elements.

Here we have some examples of this sentence structure: 

1. The baby sleeps 

The baby (subject) + sleeps (intransitive verb).

2. The kid fell 

The kid (subject) + fell (intransitive verb).

Now we have some examples with the adverbials: 

1a. The baby sleeps in his crib. 

The baby (subject) + sleeps (intransitive verb) + in his crib (adverbial). 

2a. The kid fell in the park. 

The kid (subject) + fell (intransitive verb) + in the park (adverbial).
